Ask about the finishing sequence
We use a bull float or darby soon after strike-off. Ask a contractor to explain when that step happens and how it differs from the later finishing work.
We float the surface and apply a finish suited to its use. Exterior flatwork commonly gets a push-broom texture for traction. For a patio or driveway, ask what finish the estimate includes rather than leaving the surface texture unspecified.
Get the jointing method explained
We edge and joint the slab where required. Joints can be made with a jointing tool before the concrete sets, or saw-cut after it becomes firm enough not to tear.
Ask which method is planned for your job and when it will happen. A quote that names the finish but leaves out the jointing method gives you less to compare.

Discuss rain before choosing a pour date
Kahului gets about 21.7 inches of precipitation annually. January is the wettest month, averaging about 3.6 inches; June is the driest, at about 0.6 inches.
We discuss the timing of exterior concrete work with that seasonal pattern in mind. Before agreeing to a date, ask how rain would affect the planned work and whether the schedule would need to change.
Compare the price and the specified work
Our concrete driveway installation range is $8–$20 per square foot, compared with $4–$12 for a plain concrete patio. These are ranges, not a single price for every job.
When reviewing estimates, check that they describe the same type of installation and surface finish. Keep the finishing sequence and jointing method in the written scope so those details do not disappear behind a total price.
How It Works
-
Reach Out
A two-minute call is enough to tell us what we're working with and what to check first.
-
We Take a Look
A tech inspects the problem in person, no guessing from photos, no drive-by quotes.
-
Written Estimate
You get the scope and the price in writing before any work starts. No surprises.
Depending on what we find, that can mean:
- Place and align specified reinforcing steel, dowels, or tie bars before the pour.
- Place concrete while it is workable, then consolidate it to reduce air pockets and honeycombing.
What to Expect to Pay
Typical ranges, not a fixed price - the exact number is confirmed in writing before work starts.
